It’s Sunday morning and existing conditions are unlikely. I find myself reading about Dialectical Materialism, which was the basis of Marxism, which was the basis for Communism, which was the excuse for Totalitarianism and Despots.

All of which called to mind this prescient exchange from POGO:

I dunno. That’s kinda like saying the theory of the invisible hand/laissez-faire is responsible for monopoly capitalism. As I get older, I tend to believe that politics has always been about accumulation of power. It doesn’t matter what you call it: communism, capitalism, feudalism, fascism, socialism. At the end of the day, you’ve got some small group of elites lording over everybody. And whenever there’s a ‘revolution’ it’s just some group of elites trying to wrest power from another group of elites (using some horseshit ideology as an excuse for violence). And then trying to keep the spoils for themselves. It never ends. It’s like lord of the rings. The only hope is that Frodo (or some magical creature of inhuman humility) takes all the power in the world and throws it into the fiery void. C’mon Frodo: we’re all counting on you!

There’s much to be said for what you said. Makes me wish I’d said it, but I think Pogo said it best
“It’s enough to make a man think!”
